To test the FinDelta concept, the NASA-funded Space Alliance Technology Outreach Program (SATOP) assigned the University of Central Florida Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering Department to do an analysis. The test verified that the FinDelta is up to 26 percent more effective at realigning a boat -- especially in those critical moments early in the swing. The fluid dynamics analysis screenshot at top of page shows how at only a 5-degree angle of attack the FinDelta forces air to the wing on one side while cutting it off entirely to the other.
