The Backstory

Our first sailboat (which we still have) is a 1980 S2 thirty-foot sloop. We sail it on Raritan Bay, New Jersey. Search it out on a map and you'll find the bay on the southside of Staten Island. On the north side is New York Harbor.

Open to the Atlantic Ocean, the bay can get plenty of breeze. We love our solid S2 but on the hook it can get squirrely, with lots of wiggling and darting. Some call it anchor dancing.

Looking for a solution to control swinging, I discovered the Anchor Riding Sail, a known, but not a common item at the time. Almost as a hobby, we began designing takes on the traditional three-cornered riding sail. We had them made of Top-Gun fabric, with and without hanks, and we made some of light 4 oz. sailcloth with colored panels, and sold them on the internet and at Annapolis, Miami and Chicago sailing shows.

Not satisfied with the good but still lacking performance of the traditional design, we came up with the FinDelta -- a forward facing fin with two delta wings. According to fluid dynamic testing (and customer testimonials), the FinDelta sail is considerably better at controlling swinging. We've closed down the store now, but to support our thousands of customers, we've opened this site. Here we'll answer questions and share the FinDelta design and instructions for sailors worldwide.
